![]() Some Store Bought Treatments Aren't SafeThe biggest concern about treatments that you buy in a store is that you don't always know what you are using. Some treatments aren't completely safe for the teeth, and they can actually cause long-term damage to the enamel. Once the enamel is gone, it is gone for good, and you could be left with teeth that appear translucent. Too Much Whitening Could Lead to Sensitivity IssuesExcessive teeth whitening can also cause sensitivity issues. When the at-home whitening solution penetrates into the enamel, then sensitivity to hot and cold can result. Fortunately, these issues tend to go away after a few weeks once whitening treatments end as long as they are used in moderation. However, over-whitening that leads to enamel damage could cause a long-term problem. Products with Peroxide Can Cause DamageCertain whitening products that contain peroxide can also cause damage when used in excess. This cellular damage may include gingivitis inside of the teeth. Gingivitis may result in inflamed, red gums or bleeding, and it requires treatment in order to prevent the occurrence of more serious forms of gum disease. If you are interested in having white, brighter teeth, it is important to find a safe and effective whitening treatment. Give our office a call to discuss your options, which include in-office treatments and at-home systems. We will help you to get the whiter, brighter smile of your dreams while protecting your overall oral health. |
