Having Alcohol in Your Mouthwash Can Give You Dry MouthMouthwash is beneficial to your daily oral hygiene routine.

It's able to wash away any leftover food particles that still remain in your mouth after you brush and floss your teeth. Additionally, it can also fight cavities, keep your gums healthy, whiten your teeth, freshen your breath, and calm your canker sores.

With all these great things that mouthwash can do for you, it's difficult to understand how it can also be bad for you. However, if you use a mouthwash that contains alcohol it can give you a dry mouth.

How Mouthwash with Alcohol Dries Your Mouth Out?

Most mouthwashes contain a small amount of alcohol. Nevertheless, this is still enough to damage your mouth's small tissues. When this happens, it has a way of drying up the saliva that's in your mouth. A lack of saliva can make it difficult for you to chew food, fight off germs, have good breath, protect your tooth decay, and not develop tooth decay or gum disease.

What to Look for in a Mouthwash

While you obviously want to choose a mouthwash that doesn't contain any alcohol, there are also a few other things you should look for in your mouthwash as well. This is because they're available in at least three main categories.

•  First, there's fluoride containing mouthwash that strengthens your enamel and prevent tooth decay.
•  Secondly, there are cosmetic rinses whose sole purpose is to freshen your breath.
•  Thirdly, there's anti-plaque or anti-gingivitis mouthwash that helps fortify your brushing and flossing efforts.
