If you want to improve the appearance of your smile, as well as your oral health, you may want to consider cosmetic dentistry. At Rockville Centre Dentistry, we offer several cosmetic services to give you the smile you've always wanted. A complete cosmetic overall of your teeth and gums is known as a "smile makeover."
Esthetic Components of a Smile
The esthetics of your smile is dictated by some factors, including the color, alignment, and balance of your teeth. During a consultation appointment, Henry Cuttler, DDS will evaluate your smile to determine which procedures are right for your smile makeover. Be sure to voice your desires during this time so we can develop an appropriate treatment plan. The esthetic components of your smile we may address include:
Professional teeth whitening treatment is one of the easiest and most cost-effective ways to improve your smile. In-office, or "chairside" whitening treatment involves the application of a bleaching agent to the surfaces of your teeth. We may also use a blue LED lamp to activate the bleaching agent, improve the results, and expedite the process. In-office whitening treatment can improve the brightness of your smile by up to eight shades!
A dental veneer is an excellent way to improve the cosmetics of cracked, chipped, discolored, or abnormally-shaped teeth. We can also use veneers to close any gaps between teeth. The veneer itself is a razor-thin porcelain shell that fits over the front surface of the tooth. During the procedure, we will remove a minor amount of enamel to accommodate the shape of the veneer. Porcelain is the preferred material due to its unmatched esthetics.
Composite bonding is the application of a putty-like material known as composite resin. This material can be shaped and molded to fix minor imperfections in the enamel, much like veneers. Before the procedure, we will pick a shape of composite resin that best matches your natural enamel. Next, we will shape and texture the composite to improve the esthetics of the tooth. Once we are satisfied with the new shape, we will use an ultraviolet curing light to bond the material to the tooth. Most composite bonding procedures only require one appointment. For this reason, it is one of the quickest and most cost-effective ways to change the shape, size, or appearance of a tooth.
